Liên từ kết hợp dùng để nối từ nhóm từ có tổ chức năng giống nhau(danh từ với danh từ tính từ với tính từ...)hoặc các mệnh

đề độc lập về ngữ pháp

2 nhóm liên từ chỉ sự mâu thuẫn trái ngược gồm các liên từ

3 nhóm liên từ chỉ sự lựa chọn hoặc đoán chừng gồm các liên từ Or or else, otherwise, either...or,neither...nor

4 nhóm liên từ chỉ hậu quả ,kết quả gồm các liên từ: so, therefore,

II, Liên từ phụ thuộc dùng để mở đầu một mệnh đề phụ không thể đứng một mình hoặc kết hợp 2 mệnh đề có bắt đầu bằng liên từ phụ thuộc thành một câu.

+nhóm liên từ chỉ mối quan hệ về thời gian gồm các liên từ when whenever while as as soon as after, before, till until since by the time....

+nhóm liên từ chỉ nguyên nhân hoặc lí do gồm có because as since now seeing (that/as)

+nhóm liên từ chỉ điều kiện gồm các liên từ if,unless in case provided(that) supposing (that)

+ nhóm liên từ chỉ sự tương phản gồm có though although even thought even if

ngoài ra còn có các cụm từ sau whether....or not,no matter what, whatever ,whenever,wherever,however+tính từ/trạng từ cũng có thể dùng như liên từ chỉ sự tương phản

+nhóm liên từ chỉ mục đích gồm: in order that,so that for fear that...

+so....that dùng để chỉ kết quả ,quá đến nỗi mà

so+tính từ/trạng từ+that

such (+a/an)+tính từ+danh từ +that

+ nhóm liên từ đưa ra một lời tuyên bố như một ý kiến một sự kiện hay một lý do ---->that
